The Trappist
When I visit The Trappist I feel like a kid in a candy store. The Trappist is a Belgian and Specialty beer cafe located in Oakland. They carry more Belgians than any bar I’ve ever visited. And, they are on tap! As an added bonus The Trappist pours the beers in authentic brewery glassware. I love this place.
My last trip included the following Belgian’s and German’s:
Bayrischer Bahnhoff Berliner Weisse Rye (3%) & Mahr’s Brau Ungespundet Lager (5.2% abv). The Berliner Weisse is spicy and tart. A very shy green apple flavor tries to pull through. Very refreshing and perfect on warm summer evening. The Mahr’s Lager is crisp and clean. A slight graininess with good hop balance. Slightly malty finish.
De Dolle Oerbier (9% abv) This Belgian dark is huge! Aroma has notes of ripe fruit and oxidized wine. Big flavor-malty sweetness followed by bitter balance with a warm alcohol finish. Very complex.
