Lagunitas Little Sumpin’ Wet Dog
Our stop at Lagunitas Brewing Company in Petaluma, CA and was a fantastic experience. Great place, great food, great people and great beer! We tasted the Little Sumpin’ Wild and Wet Dog right out of the gate. Little Sumpin’ Wild is a Belgian Strong Ale by style. It poured a nice, slightly hazy, light cooper with a nice long lasting white head. The aroma was was full of bubblegum and citrusy/piney notes from the Belgian yeast and the hops. The flavor was malty and and spicy with a nice hop bitterness that helped balance out the alcohol and malt. The carbonation is about medium and adds a nice little bite. A very complex ale. Weighing in at 8.7% alcohol and 73 IBU’s this seems like a much bigger beer that it actually drinks. Very nice.
Next up was the Wet Dog, an American Pale Ale by style. It pours a slighty hazy light copper color with a small white head. The aroma was dominated by beautiful a tropical fruit and grapefruit nose. The flavor was malty sweet at the start and then immediately taken over by citrusy, piney and floral flavors that lingered into the finish. The carbonation level was nice medium-high and helped with stepping up the apparent bitterness of the hops. A nice dry hop finish brings a perfect end to each sip. Very, very enjoyable.
