Tehachapi Mountain Brew & Grill Fest!
Saturday the first inaugural Tehachapi Mountain Brew & Grill Fest was launched. In my humble opinion it was a huge success. 10 BJCP judges were on hand to judge commercial craft beer and home brew entries. I was happy I agreed to judge and will participate if invited next year.
The Best of Show winner is…
Mission Brewery in San Diego! Their Bavarian style hefeweizen was the closest entry to the BJCP style guidelines and therefore worthy of the Best of Show award. The hef had a nice balance of clove and banana and even a hint of bubblegum. These aromas and flavors are created by the special yeast used to ferment the ale. The wheat malt was noticeable and added a nice flavor and a creamy mouthfeel. The hops were very well-balanced from an aroma, flavor and bitterness perspective. Overall a very good example and an enjoyable beer.
The event included music, BBQ, dinner from one of six local restaurants, arts and craft vendors and beer samples that were provided by at least 30 California craft breweries. I lost count, but there had to be at least 100 different beers offered. There was plenty of beer and food for this very fun beer and BBQ bonanza!
