Unexpected Summertime Pairing
Wow, what a pleasant surprise!
A little out of character I ordered dessert after dinner tonight. I usually save the calories for an after dinner barley wine or some kind of big, imperial deliciousness. I went for the Key Lime pie. I love the tart bite and balanced sweetness the lime delivers to the palate. I had just ordered a Coors Light. I know what you’re thinking, “Cam, you’re a craftbeer dude. What are you doing drinking yellow beer?!” Well, Coors Light is my go to lawnmower, softball playing, fence post digging, thirst quenching beer of choice. I’ll confess more on my chugging beer preference on another post.
My sweet and sour (cream colored, not green) tongue teaser is delivered. Deep in conversation I take a bite. Nice. The tart sweet, silky, creamy, lime filling and crunchy graham cracker crust hit the spot. Then my first sip of beer…WOW, the lime gave my first taste of crisp, cold Coors Light a lemony character that cut the sweet and the tart from the pie. I’ve now lost track of the conversation (sorry Cindi and Dan). I immediately went back in for another bite and another swig. I told my wife and friends, “I don’t believe what a cool and refreshing event was happening in my mouth. You’ve got to try this!” They agreed, but with a little less passion.
This pairing is most definitely a summer evening redux waiting to happen.
Cheers!
