Lagunitas DayTime…Anytime
I took the midday Session IPA (4.65% abv) challenge made by the Lagunitas website and poured a DayTime with lunch. I still had a ton of crap to do.
The pour was a bright straw color with a huge, long-lasting, white head. As the head subsided Belgian lace clung to the side of the glass as though refusing to leave. The aroma was hop dominate with grapefruit and citrus followed by a caramel malt note late in the sniff. The flavor was hoppy citrus, tangerine and grapefruit. The malt starts to kick in a little later to balance out the hop bitterness for a nice balance. The finish is a clean refreshing hop dryness that leaves you wanting another taste.
This flavor profile changed slightly when I paired this Session IPA with a sweet and spicy Thai dish of Green Curry Fried Rice with Chicken. The heat from the spice and chili peppers and the sweetness from the coconut milk and cashews reacted with the hops to stimulate a new flavor profile-pineapple and mango! The dish transformed the beer into a tropical experience. Unexpected and pleasantly surprised.Chon Gow!
