I was thrilled to find Chimay Triple on tap at Gulfstream Restaurant in Newport Beach. This authentic Belgian Trappist has a spicy, fruity maltiness with spice, pepper, clove and lemon notes. Oktoberfest is held in Munich and lasts sixteen days. The festival ends on the first Sunday of October. This year the party spans 9/20/14 through 10/5/14. Don’t be fooled by this dark, ominous pour. Schwarzbier (Black Beer) is surprisingly smooth and refreshing. It may look like a big roasty stout, but it is quite the opposite. When I visit The Trappist I feel like a kid in a candy store. The Trappist is a Belgian and Specialty beer cafe located in Oakland. They carry more Belgians than any bar I’ve ever visited. Barrels under the stairs? What’s aging in wood at Pacific Coast Brewing in Oakland? Maybe the Blue Whale Ale…or something else? Can’t wait to find out. Blue Whale Ale is a strong amber, big and hoppy. Nose, flavor and finish. It runs about 8.9% abv and 70 IBUs.
