Weihenstephaner Vitus
I’ve got good news and bad news. The bad news is that Oktoberfest officially ends today…in Munich. The good news is that here in the US the celebratory reason-to-drink-beer-season cheerfully continues through October. Carry on with your brats, pretzels and dirndls.
Vitus Weizenbock is light in color, but big on flavor. Big at 7.7% abv. It is one of the “1001 Beers You Must Taste Before You Die.”
I poured this Weihenstephaner weizenbock today. Gold with orange highlights and cloudy with a huge fluffy white, long lasting head.
The aroma is complex with a malty, bready sweetness. A punch of clove-like phenols and finally fruity banana esters emerge.
Malt dominates the palate initially soon to be followed by spicy clove and banana flavors.
A clean refreshing, spicy finish with maltiness balanced by big alcohol warming.
Prost!
